Some of Alberta’s earliest history isn’t in museums. It’s written into the landscape itself.

Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to support historians and archaeologists in documenting a site in Southern Alberta that may connect to Peter Fidler’s 1792–93 journey, one of the earliest recorded European travels into the region, guided by Piikani leaders.

Using @farocreaform high-resolution and Surphaser long-range 3D scanning, we captured carved inscriptions spread across multiple rock formations, preserving details that weather, lighting, and time continue to erode. The goal isn’t just documentation, but creating a permanent digital record that researchers can study, compare, and revisit without disturbing the site.

This project sits at the intersection of history, archaeology, and digital preservation, and it’s a powerful example of how 3D scanning can help protect and better understand places that shaped Alberta long before modern infrastructure existed.

Designing van interiors shouldn’t start with assumptions. It should start with reality.

In this case study, we break down how @wildernessvans uses Rapid3D’s scan of the 2025 Ram ProMaster 3500 159"WB Extended Super High Roof to engineer smarter, better-fitting van interiors, starting from the vehicle’s true as-built geometry.

By designing from scan mesh, then building ribs, profiles, and full interiors on top of that foundation, their team reduces rework, improves fit, and moves from digital to physical with confidence.

What happens when a critical component on a speciality vehicle fails and there’s no replacement available?

In a recent project, we helped rebuild a fatigued Porsche clutch cable bracket that had snapped and been welded back together. Using @farocreaform’s HandySCAN PRO and Scan-to-CAD Pro workflows, we captured the repaired part and rebuilt it as a clean, manufacturable CAD model ready for CNC machining.

What a year.

2025 was a big one for Rapid3D. New partnerships, complex projects brought to life, and time spent working closely with our customers to turn real-world challenges into clear, usable data and results. None of it happens without the people behind the work.

Our 3D Scanning Technologies Open House brought together an incredible mix of engineers, inspectors, manufacturers, and first-time visitors, all here to get hands-on with the latest in 3D scanning and metrology.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and asked great questions. Attendees spent the day exploring the new Canadian-made @creaform3d HandySCAN Evo Elite and Pro, the HandySCAN Max Elite, our Scan to CAD Modeling and 3D Inspection stations, Integrity Suite for NDT, and Creaform.OS. We also showcased API laser trackers, Surphaser scanners, and offered AESUB samples for everyone to try. The conversations were sharp, the demos stayed packed, and the energy in the shop never dipped.

A huge shoutout to @rockymotorsports and @turn17garage for lending us the Rush SR race car. It was the perfect platform to demonstrate real-world 3D scanning on a high-performance vehicle and definitely a crowd favorite.

A big thank you as well to our team for making it all come together, and to everyone who made the trip to see what’s new at Rapid3D. And a special thanks to those who brought food donations for the Calgary Food Bank. The support means a lot.
